A Celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday September 13, 2017 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
There will be a private family graveside service at Harmony Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Jerry D. Stephens Sr. Memorial Fund in care of Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. Jerry Dale Stephens Sr. 67, of Oblong, IL, passed away Friday September 8, 2017 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Jerry was born in Annapolis, IL on Sept. 19, 1949 and was the son of Major W. Stephens and Reba (Tracy) Stephens. On Oct.30, 1986 he married Yvonne Lee York.
Jerry was a carpenter for many years with David Krick in Oblong, IL and he enjoyed cutting firewood with his brothers for many years until he was injured and could no longer work. Jerry was a member of the NRA and enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and working on just about anything. He was a big fan and enjoyed anything about John Wayne.
Jerry is survived by his mother Reba Stephens of Oblong, IL; companion Lee Stephens of Oblong, IL; five sons and two daughters-in-law Jerry D. Stephens Jr and wife Jamie of Oblong, IL, Jason “Jed” Stephens of Oblong, IL, Tony LeRoy and Alisha Stephens of Robinson, IL, Damian Stephens of Jacksonville, IL and Brandon Stephens and Alexis Best of Oblong, IL; four daughters and sons-in-law Amber and Rick Beasley of Martinsville, IL, Stephinie and Brian Weger of Annapolis, IL, Lana Stephens and Fiancé Greg Myers of Oblong, IL and Randa and John Curtis of Mt. Vernon, IL; seventeen grandchildren Jordyn Weger, Skyler Weger, Summer Weger, Jerry D. Stpehens III, Jacey Stephens, Martin Everett Stephens, Jailyn Stephens, Khloe Stephens, Sydnee Stephens, Thomas Andrew Oatman and wife Patricia, Rachel Brianna Wilson and husband Kyle, Aaron Craig Fry, Kadance Stephens, Bryant Myers, Kameron Curtis, Karson Curtis and Brett Stephens; four great –grandchildren Alexis Oatman, Corbin Light, Gunner Oatman and Waylon Oatman; four brothers and a sister-in-law Larry and Donna Stephens of West Liberty, IL, John Stephens of Olney, IL, Rick Stephens of Robinson, IL and Jeff Stephens of Newton, IL as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father Major Stephens; former wife Jo Gilbert and a sister-in-law Diana Stephens.
